First Tattoo, What Should I Expect?

Im going in a few weeks for my first tattoo. I’m going to an artist that I’ve heard a lot of good things about, and its a design i drew myself. It’s a little bird with stars. I’m getting it on my shoulder and its like 4 inches wide and 5 inches long. What should I expect? Is there certain things I should I do before i go? He’ll explain the aftercare stuff right? Any advice you want to share is appreciated. Thanks
